New logos .. What do you think ??

Nottingham Korfball Club has some great, new logos ! We’re using this one for the juniors, among other things, as it actually shows a post and players, a girl and a boy. Check out the notice board in the corridor at the Arena to see some others.

Korfball on Channel 4 !!!

Did you see it ? If not, try catch up TV on your telly, or this link…

http://www.channel4.com/video/brandless-catchup.jsp?vodBrand=destination-2012

Sheffield Korf Day, Saturday 25th April

We still need to hear from most of you if you can make this date. The hall will probably be booked from 1-3pm, so it will mean a leaving time of 11.30/11.45am, to ensure we get there on time. Return time will probably be around 4.30 / 5pm (these timings hopefully allow for traffic !!). It’s open to all who can shoot on a full size post or a 3m basket (that’s the biggest one the littlies use). We’ll try to make sure everyone has a good time.

So please reply with a yes/no and also let us know if you can offer a lift to anyone else, BY 6.00PM, FRIDAY 17TH APRIL.

KSA Awards

Well done to all those who recently gained their Level One Korfball Skills Award. It’s great to see you all learning and trying hard, we now need use some of these skills in matches, so try and make the Sheffield date. It’s only a friendly game and it’ll be good to see what others young korfers are up to and perhaps pick up some useful new ideas.

Korfball Opportunities…

You should all have had the Avon Tyrrell leaflet by now. If you’d like to know even more about this fab Korfball Summer camp (this is its 16th year) held from 1st - 8th August, for players over ten. Ask me for details. To check out the facilities, use this link http://www.avontyrrell.org.uk/

For anyone interested in a more intensive course, there is a Korfball School of Excellence summer course, held at Crystal Palace. This will be its sixth year. The SOE is an intensive training camp aimed at improving technical, athletic and mental skill levels, in addition to improving the all round knowledge and understanding of subjects relevant to successful participation in the sport. This year it’s 4 days and 3 nights long, from Sunday 26th July to Wednesday 29th July and will hopefully cost around £330-£350. This includes 3 meals a day, accommodation and a course t-shirt.

Anyone wishing to register an interest, book a place on the 2009 course or simply find out more about its detail and organisation should ask me and I will give you details of who to contact.

Next term’s dates and fees…

Tuesday 21st April - 19th May training indoors

Tuesday 26th May half term break

Tuesday 2nd June - 14th July training outdoors

We train outdoors on grass, 6.30-7.30pm, as usual, on Greythorn Drive Park (opposite South Notts. College). You will need to bring a jumper, tracksuit bottoms and a drink. Please wear outdoors trainers - those with an ‘Astro’ sole will give you a grip on the grass.

The costs for the term are reduced, as outdoor training is only £1. Payment by cheque - to Nottm. Korfball Club - is £19.50 per player. Indoor weekly cash payment is still £3, and outdoors is just £1 per player, per week !

Korfball Family Summer Picnic 2009…

Please clear your diaries for hopefully the sunniest and best day out this summer, the Korfball family Summer Picnic !

We hope to hold this on Sunday 21st June, in Bridgford Park. More details later !

Angela’s good news !!

If anyone missed it at training the other week, we’re pleased to announce that Angela - one of our juniors’ coaches - has a very good reason to miss training at the moment… because she’s going to have a baby in early August !!! Congratulations again Angela (and Jez, her husband, too!).

Keep on korfin’

Have a happy and safe Easter too !

The East Midlands Korfball Association recently took an opportunity to promote korfball at Chesterfield College, Derbyshire. [Taken from EMKA website]

EMKA were invited to attend an Equality and Diversity week at the college, to put on some coaching sessions in Korfball on the basis that it is a mixed team sport

3 Korfballers from the region went up last monday with a couple of posts and ran 3 sessions over the day, introducing about 60-70 students to korball. As a bonus, the students (16-19 year olds) were all sports students which means it was targeted at people who are ’sports aware’.

Feedback from the students as well as the college activity coordinator was very positive; and they may wish to run a similar event again in the foreseeable future. It may be that Sheffield reap the benefit of new recruits more than EMKA, but you never know………..

Even though it was mid week, which is not the best time to get people free and able to coach, it was great that EMKA was able to take up this chance to promote the sport.

Many thanks for Rahul, Sam and Rob for their efforts.

To check out what else EMKA is up to, visit: www.nottskorfball.co.uk/emka

Our Club Website…

Have you checked out the latest news on our very own club website ? It has loads of news about the senior sides and will soon have more juniors stuff too. Just click on www.nottskorfball.co.uk

Nottm. K.C. competes in Europe…

You may remember us telling you that the club’s 1st team got through to the finals of the Europa Shield. To find out more, check out http://www.worldkorfball.org/competitions/44.html

Juniors’ korf opportunities…

There are some really good opportunities coming up for players wishing to improve their korf.

Check out this link for more on the Korfball School Of Excellence, being held in Milton Keynes in February half term, for players aged 9-17 years. http://www.korfball.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4488

Also, there is Avon Tyrell, the BKA’s annual Korfball Camp. You need to be over ten years old to attend this. Check out the facilities at http://www.avontyrrell.org.uk/

An information sheet will be available in late February, but as many parents are already organising your summer activities, we’ve managed to get dates and cost info. now. The camp is Saturday 1st to Saturday 8th August and costs £223. Contact Karen Palfreyman, the camp organiser, for more details (use Notts KC website’s contact form for contact details)

Training Fees…

Fees until Easter are £30 if paying by cheque / upfront cash, or £3.00 cash per week. Thank you.

Training…

We think this is going well at the moment, though as always we could do with a few more players. It’s been good to see the older juniors progress to training with the adults. This has also enabled some of the older and more experienced ‘littlies’ to train occasionally with the ‘biggies’ too. Players are always asked if they wish to train with another group and we respect their choices.

KSA nights…

The Korfball Skills Awards nights coming up are on Tuesdays 25th Feb and 4th March., so be there to make sure you get the best chance of ‘ticking off’ some of the tasks.

Emails…

Some emails are not getting through, so parents, if you have only seen this newsletter on paper, please give Kathy an email address for you and your child/ren (if you wish them to receive it by email too). All emails to junior players are sent bcc. and have ‘korfball’ somewhere in the subject heading. Older juniors attending seniors training will usually get seniors emails forwarded by Kathy, again bcc, so they only receive relevant emails.

More matches…

As the recent email said, Sheffield has been in contact about playing matches. They are in the process of booking a hall for Saturday 14th March. It would be in the afternoon, possibly 1.00pm - 3.00pm, for anyone in year 4 or above (those younger than this may have a tough day, as their youngest players are in year 4/5, I believe , but please tell Kathy if you’re younger and would still like to play and she’ll double check with Sheffield). The venue will be in Sheffield (or the Arena, if they can’t get a hall)

**Parents, are you available to drive if the event is in Sheffield? **

A primary school in Bramcote is lucky enough to have a head teacher who plays for Magic K.C. He is doing after school korfball with some children, once a week, until half term. We’ve asked if they’d like to play on these dates too. If they can’t make it, then we’ll set up another day here at the Arena, which will obviously be just for KS1 and KS2 children.

Ideas needed !!…

We’re always open to ideas for socials and fundraising and welcome any thoughts from players and / or parents. Any positive ideas for how you’d like to see your club progress are welcome.

If anyone has anything they’d like to see in the newsletters or at training, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Keep on Korfin’

Kathy and Rob

This black tie affair will be held in Norwich on Saturday 9th May to coincide with the Premier League finals and Champions Trophy.

The English Korfball Association has announced the venue for the Premier League finals and Champions Trophy, which sees the country’s top teams play off in Norwich on 9th & 10th May 2009. The weekend will include the culmination of the 2008-09 Premier League with the top four teams in England playing off for the ultimate prize, Champions of England. At the other end of the league, the lowest two placed Premier League teams battle to keep their place as they are challenged by top teams from the regional leagues. It looks set to be a great weekend of korfball, put the date in your diary now.
